One more Rio sunset.
More slowly, please
One more Rio sunset.
Cachaça, soursop, cinnamon and cloves.
At the Corcovado train terminal in Cosme Velho.
Vista Chinesa on Flickr.
Rio, partly cloudy, seen from the Tijuca National Park.
Evening footvolley practice in Ipanema. Beautiful, isn’t it? That’s their coach shouting in the background.
Frigatebirds soaring above the Park of Ruins. The day was mild with lovely breezes.
A rainy Sunday in Ipanema.
The Favelavator.
The favela-hotel. The apartment I stayed in for a few nights has this view of the would-be hotel on the edge of the Morro Cantagalo favela, overlooking Ipanema. The story I heard is that this was built as a luxury hotel with fabulous views of the sea — but by the time it finished, the favela had encroached on it and the project was abandoned. It’s now used as a community center for the favela. On a weekend night I heard the sound of samba echoing out, and later the tweep-tweep of critters in the cliffside brush.
A little Sunday sidewalk samba, near the Gloria metro, a week ago. It was hot, there was a tent selling beer and snacks, and people were just hanging out and having a good time.
While this was happening, the rest of the city was watching Flamengo play soccer.
